Simon Davies and Anete Graudina October 2001
The concert at the Greenwood Centre was well attended and began with Sonata in A minor Op2 No12 by Vivaldi which was crisply executed and well balanced. There followed three duos Op61 by F. Molino which were very well received and from this point the audience were hooked. Two tangos completed the first half of the recital. El Apache Argebtino by M. Aroztegui and El Presumido by A. Villoldo.
After the interval the duo performed Suite Buenos Aires by M. Diego Pujol and three tangos by Astor Piazzolla. They also performed two encores, a Pagannini Cantabile in D and a further tango by Piazzolla, Libertango.
Simon Davies' guitar produced a very even balanced sound with good bass projection that provided a good platform for Anete Graudina's violin playing. The violin's sound was simply divine. From the classical sound of the Vivaldi to the almost tongue in cheek playing required for the tangos the violin provided the many different voices required for the recital. The final pieces by Astor Piazzolla were particularly well interpreted and also proved Simon Davies a chance to excel.
All in all it was another successful evening at the Greenwood centre thoroughly enjoyed by all.
