Dimitris DekavallasDimitris Dekavallas was born in Athens in 1982 and began learning the guitar at the age of 6.

He started the guitar at the National Conservatory of Athens and in 1998 he continued his studies at the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens with Angelos Nikolopoulos. He graduated in 2002 with 1st Prize, achieving the highest mark. Between 2003-2004 Dimitrios studied privately with Alexios Froudarakis. Since 2005 he continues his studies at the Royal Academy of Music (Postgraduate Degree). He has won the TEBUTT EXIBITION Scholarship Prize (R.A.M-London) and the IKY NATIONAL Schorlarship (Greece).


He has given concerts in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Veria, Volos, Crete, Larissa, Ioannina, Syros, Lamia). Recently he gave recitals in England performing for guitar societies and participated in the XIth Bolivar Hall International Guitar Festival in London.

Dimitrios is the winner of various guitar competitions. In 1999 he won the 1st prize in the National Guitar Competition ‘ODE TO GUITAR’, Greece, in 2000 the 2nd prize in the Halkida National Guitar Competition, in 2003 he won the 1st prize in the Veria National Guitar Competition, as well as the 1st prize in the Volos Winter International Guitar Competition in Greece . In 2005 he was the 1st prize winner of the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award-London.

He has played in masterclasses with George Hatzinikos, David Russell, Hubert Käppel, Carlos Marchione and Carlos Domeniconi. He has also performed in workshops with John Williams, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

Dimitrios currently lives in London and is continuing his guitar studies under Micheal Lewin, Timothy Walker and John Mills at the Royal Academy of Music.

Dimitrios will be playing a programme including Giuliani, Turina, Rodrigo, Brouwer, Morel at the Greenwood Centre on Saturday November 24th at 7:30pm. Tickets £8 (£6 conc.)
