Gary Ryan is one of the world's leading classical guitarists. He made his London recital debut at the Purcell Room in 1994 to exceptional critical acclaim and has since performed all over the world, consistently winning high praise for his formidable technique, outstanding musicianship and original concert programmes.
Gary Ryan was born in England in 1969 and studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, where he won a scholarship to study in 1987. In 1991 he graduated with first class honours and a host of awards including the Julian Bream Prize, the John Mundy String Prize and an award for the most outstanding all round student.
He was appointed one of the youngest ever professors at the Royal College of Music at the age of 27 and has gained a reputation as one of Britain's finest guitar teachers. He is also widely active as an examiner and adjudicator and was made an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 1997 in recognition of his achievements.
Gary Ryan has also recently received great acclaim for his highly innovative compositions for the guitar, which draw on the rich tradition of the instrument and combine it with popular contemporary influences and extended instrumental techniques. His latest CD, Worlds Apart , includes his own hugely popular debut work for the guitar, Scenes from The Wild West and subsequent commissions have resulted in several other ground breaking works for solo guitar and ensemble which have recently been performed in the UK, the USA, Mexico, Italy, Holland, and Turkey.
